“Muir.”

The sailboat captain eyed the young raven shifter sitting on his deck.  “How the hell did you get mixed up in this, Vale?” he said at last.

“I was born,” Cayden answered acerbically.

“Wanna beer?”

“No time for that.”

“No,” a deep voice said from behind them, “there isn’t.”

Lachlan had to admit he was impressed by the Shadow’s nonchalance.  Not only did he not flinch, he engaged the leader of Dragon Core full on.

Lage McAskell,” Cayden intoned, “by the power vested in me by the Shadow government I hereby inform you that you are charged with high crimes.”  He glared.  “You are Enemy of the State.”

“Is that right?” he replied, transforming to his natural state.

Lachlan sighed.  “Just clean up the blood,” he said wearily before shifting and flying off into the night.
