“I always wondered where authors got their inspiration.”
This came up in a recent conversation and I was glad for the opportunity to explain that fiction authors do not write from real life events, although they can be inspired by them. In spite of that, over the years I’ve found myself unable, at times, to persuade those who know me personally that they do not see themselves or me, in my books. Unless I’m writing nonfiction, I can honestly say I make this stuff up.
What if? I find most of my inspiration simply asking myself what if?
“You see the world differently.”
A friend said this to me a few years ago.
I have been a psychic since I was a child. At the age of 10 I experienced a brain hemorrhage that left me temporarily blind, paralyzed, and in a coma. I died three separate times during the horrific experience.
I’ve moved around a lot and that has exposed me to different cultures and different cultural beliefs. It enabled me to be the ultimate observer, in my opinion.
You can see how my life shaped up to be out of the ordinary.
These eventss, combined with my education, professional, and personal experiences, have provided a vast expanse of material from which to choose the backdrop and supporting details for my what ifs?
