Why Angels and Engineers?

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.  – Galileo Galilei

I am aware that a philosopher’s ideas are not subject to the judgment of ordinary persons, because it is his endeavor to seek the truth in all things, to the extent permitted to human reason by God. - Nicolaus Copernicus

Science is much better at finding things that exist than at ruling out things that don’t.  - Marcelo Gleiser

For centuries, humans have been held hostage between the opposing forces of religious teachings and scientific discoveries.  But why does it have to be either/or?  Rather than contradicting spiritual or supernatural experiences, science is often able to provide support, if not an explanation.

A good example is the theory of multiple worlds.  In the aftermath of the Near Death Experience I talked about my awareness of multiple timelines, often describing them in great detail.  Unfortunately, there was nothing available to me, either through religious teachings, or basic physics, that could verify or explain something I knew from experience to be true.

Years went by, and although I continued to discuss the existence of multiple universes, and even wrote about it in my book After Here, The Celestial Realm and What Happens When We Die, I wasn’t able to find anything that could satisfactorily explain what I’d seen and felt.

When the student is ready the teacher will appear.  - Buddha

As I was researching for an upcoming book, I came across an article about physicist Hugh Everett III.  In his doctoral thesis, he put forth the idea, backed by mathematics, that there are multiple worlds in which everything that is possible happens.  I was able to relate to his conclusions since I’d experienced them first hand and knew them to be true.  Excited, I finished the article and continued to search the NOVA PBS website for more information.

I watched the Fabric: Universe or Multiverse? segment of Brian Greene’s The Fabric of the Cosmos.  Three separate scientific lines of reasoning support the concept of multiple universes, or what they were calling a multiverse.  They are eternal inflation, string theory, and dark energy.

I felt like I’d found the Holy Grail.  Finally, a scientific explanation for what I’d personally experienced. What a wonderful vindication that in combining spiritual and scientific disciplines, it is possible to have a more complete answer; a holistic answer that will more than satisfy.

It is never either/or…

Angels and Engineers Volume I, Spirits Among Us and Angels and Engineers Volume II, Angels Among Us are available separately in electronic format.  A combined Volume I and II will be available in both electronic and paperback format April 2012.
